The product is supposed to be a hybrid between the affordable cheap headsets that transform smartphones into VR players and the high-end ones meant for gaming and work while being plugged to desktop computers.

An Oculus spokesman told Bloomberg that it doesn't have a new product to announce right now, but "can confirm we're making several significant technology investments in the standalone VR category".

Oculus founder Palmer Luckey left Facebook this year following a high-profile battle over IP involving ZeniMax over the breach of an NDA by Luckey. Then a few days ago Facebook temporarily dropped the price another $200, during its 'Summer of Rift' sale, to $399. As you can tell from the image below of the new package, included in the box is the Oculus Rift headset, two sensors, Touch controllers and relevant cables. Samsung controls 21.5% of the global virtual reality market, according to statistics from research firm IDC, followed by the PlayStation VR and HTC Vive.

Desgraciadamente, el entusiasmo en el equipo ha tenido un precio", indicó Vaughters. Pero la felicidad no fue completa, ya que el Tour sancionó al colombiano.

Facebook said last year that it's working on a standalone, untethered version of the Oculus Rift, dubbed the "Santa Cruz" prototype. However, Oculus will reportedly release a second-gen version of the 'Pacific' headset that will offer positional tracking functionality. "Whether you're touring exotic locations across the globe in 360, collaborating on a virtual marker masterpiece, or riffing on a viral video, the people who matter most to you can now follow along in real time on Facebook." added Booth. The Pacific will rely on a wireless controller and will ideally be marketed for viewing multimedia, social networking, and playing games.

The summer sale follows with this spring offering a price drop permanently, when the Rift and Touch as each became cheaper by $100.

Bloomberg says as much, citing sources that asked not to be named. The app store will also be accessible through the VR user interface, as well.
